TESTES

These are oval organ.

LOCATION

Lie in scrotum, secreted at either end by spermatic cord.

NUMBER

Men have two testes

FUNCTION

  1. Responsible for making primary male sex hormone , testosterone
  2. Generates sperm

SCROTUM

Sac like organ made of skin and muscles.

Scrotum is made up of two side by side pouches, in each pouch testis located.

LOCATION

Located inferior to the penis in the pubic region.

FUNCTION

  1. Smooth muscle of scrotum regulates the distance between the testes and the rest of the body.
  2. Scrotum relaxes to move testes away from the body’s heat when testes become too warm to support sperm production.

Conversely when temperature drop below scrotum contracts to move the testes closer to body’s heat.

VAS DEFERENCE

It is a muscular duct that connects the epididymis and the ejaculatory ducts.

FUNCTION

It helps in transport of sperm from the epididymis to the ejaculatory ducts.

EPIDIDYMIS

Comma shaped, tightly coiled tube.found on the superior part of the testis.

FUNCTION

It stores the sperm cells and transport if from the testes.

LOCATION

Located posterior to the urinary bladder and anterior to the rectum.

FUNCTION

Produce liquid portion of semen which contain proteins and mucus and alkaline pH to help sperm to survive in alkaline environment of vagina

Vas deference join with urethra at a structure called ejaculatory duct.

FUNCTION

Expels sperm during ejaculation.

PROSTATE GLAND

Walnut size exocrine gland.

LOCATION

Inferior end of the urinary bladder & surrounds the urethra.

FUNCTION

Produces large amount of fluid to make semen

It passes through the prostate & ends at the external urethral orifice.

LOCATION

Located at the tip of penis

FUNCTION

Urine excretion

COWPER’S GLAND

Pea sized exocrine gland

LOCATION

Interior to prostate & anterior to anus

FUNCTION
